The World Architecture Festival (WAF) is an annual ceremony and award programme which recognize the best architecture project in the world.
This year, Berlin (Germany) hosted the event on November 15th-17th. With this architecture festival, projects gain international exposure and recognition by main industry players, architects, and clients.
Shanghai Yangshupu Power Plant is located in Yangpu District in Shanghai, along with the Huangpu River waterfront. Formerly used as a power plant, the site will be regenerated into a mixed-use development with office, hotel, commercial, leisure, sport and culture functions. While retaining and protecting the industrial heritage buildings, the park provides new and high-quality work and leisure spaces. The most representative industrial structure on the site is retained and renovated as “Babylon Vertical Garden”, formed by an experienced museum, urban farming, and vertical gardens.
Yangpu Power Plant is the highlight project of East Bund, as part of Shanghai Huangpu River riverfront regeneration plan. In line with Shanghai Master Plan 2040, before 2020, Shanghai plans to regenerate both sides of the overall Huangpu Riverfront, which includes 45 km of public spaces between Yangpu Bridge and Xupu Bridge.
Shanghai Yangpu Power Plant was also shortlisted for Emirates Glass LEAF Awards which recognize innovative architectural designs that set the benchmark for the international architectural community of the next generation. Yangpu Power Plant was also "special mention" for GDA, German Design Award.
